The evolution in Australia is fascinating. It is a shame some of the creatures humans may have killed off there in the past few centuries that we never heard of. Thylacine were interesting to me but I'm sure there were others like them that were never recorded that were wiped out. -

silentbuddha,
I quit Walmart as a manager this March to pursue a Nursing degree. But apparently they don't sell AR-15s anymore. I'm not sure since I don't shop there or have much to do with them now.

I did forget to mention something as my experience in selling firearms. The 400+ firearms I sold in a ten year period, happened mostly after there was even a hint of gun controls. During President Obama's two election terms and Sandy Hook Massacre. I spent most of my time approving fire arm sells during my shift.
For example in 2005 I probably sold a total of 16 guns for the whole year and the store itself probably sold around 200. This is in a very rural area of Florida and what was sold were your shotguns mostly and hunting rifles. I never sold handguns and the company only sales handguns in Alaska for bear protection.
On December 15th the day after the massacre, I personally sold 30 firearms that day and that was limited because I was waiting for background checks. The state of Florida was overwhelm with background checks. Additionally in 2005 we didn't sell assault rifles (AR-15). In 2011 we started to sale them as there was a great demand. In December 15th, 16th, and 17th we sold out of our entire inventory of AR-15 style guns (117). For five months we would have customers camp our sporting goods department starting at 3am waiting for FedEx to arrive. We never knew what we would get and sometimes we wouldn't get any guns, but that didn't stop people from waiting.
One of the main reason for the rush was because people were taking these same guns and selling them for 3x time amount. A colt AR-15 that we sold for $1050 was selling at gun shows or private sell for $3,000. Our cheapest AR-15 type rifle was around $598 and it was being resold for nearly $1,500. The same thing was happening with popular ammo .22, 9mm, ect... Then when people realized that our government would do nothing the hysteria died, with the exception of ammo. I still can't find .22 anywhere.
The gun manufacturers love gun debate and they love when people begin shouting gun control. Their profits soar. That Bushmaster that was used in Sandy Hook Massacre was from Remington and sold at places like Walmart.

But now is your opportunity to say what your solution would be.
I already stated my solution. Total gun ban. Same as yours. However, I stated such an event will not happen for a very long time in America and listed the reasons why. I'm a gun hobbyist and don't hunt, so a ban wouldn't really impact me much. Nor do I believe that my guns will protect me in a home invasion as I stated in another post.
I slightly agree with Simon, for he is correct about the culture has to change. That is the key as it is with the Islamic extreme ideology. The problem is changing a culture can take a long time but it can happen within a 20 year period. I remember in 1995 that identifying as homosexual or even supporting basic rights for them was taboo but my generation (I was a teen then) were more liberal on the issue. Over 20 years my generation raise children that were even more liberal on the subject and so laws were changed and both private and public policy reflect the cultural change.
I know my answer is not as concrete as gun control but I truly believe nothing will change unless our country gun culture changes. How this can happen I don't have an answer. I do know that MTV played a role in exposing my generation to homosexuals and perhaps media and pop cultural may be the answer too. Do you feel I'm wrong?

Let's use what it was when they were banned from 1994-2004. And anything that would meet that criteria that has been invented since.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Assault_Weapons_BanI'm ok with that ban. Not quite sure on what would be considered a duplicate of the Colt AR-15. I suspect the sig saur, bushmaster, ect... type based on the 5.56mm. As long as it isn't a total ban on weapons using 5.56mm.
I didn't notice any mention on high capacity clips. The ruger 10/22 I own and mentioned in a previous posting is very easy to customize. It is a low caliber ammo but a .22 round is used quite often in gang shootings because it is very cheap. Though extremely hard to find for purchase in my area. But a box of 500 rounds go for $24. I have several 30 round clips so even a low caliber ammo I can pump out probably 60 to 90 rounds in a minute as long as the gun doesn't jam while changing out the clip. The gun will still be legal under the propose ban. And this is a gun mainly used for small game animals.
On my 9mm glock I have a 50 round clip. It looks completely ridiculous, but I was able to unload the whole clip without it jamming in under a minute. Perfectly legal in Florida and would still be legal under the propose assault rifle ban.

For those that want to ban assault weapons, please define the criteria of an assault weapon. I have at my brothers house a ruger 10/22. It is a low caliber rifle mainly for possum, and other small game. However various legislation has it listed as an assault rifle. I think too many that post an opinion have no experience on guns or the fact that America gun laws are fragmented
Again define assault rifle

I once viewed having guns was for personal protection. However I keep my guns locked, unloaded, and key to safe hidden and not in same room. I am a lousy shot. So the reality of me using my gun in defense during a home invasion is probably nill. but it still gives me some sense of security. -

I have sold over 400 guns in a 10 year period and forgot to state that I was required to have an fbi background check to sale guns. But I think that was my company policy in anticipation of new legislation. -

Make people require insurance so careless and bad actors are priced out of the system.
eh, Liability insurance is extremely cheap with the exception of perhaps medical malpractice. But whatever I have no problem with it.
If your gun was not secured and used in a crime, people can sue you the careless owner, not the manufacturer. You need insurance if you are going to have a gun and not protect it
This already exist in America. In fact you can be charged criminally and civilly. Maybe you mean a national mandate? Because there are jurisdiction that require a gun reported if it is stolen/lost. This is America besides being good at killing each other we also excel at suing. So a moot point with the exception of insurance requirement.
We can limit the number of headache tablets that people can buy and it reduces suicides. Why can't we limit guns and bullets too? No regulation on Tylenol where I live. Anyway, easy answer... Impossible to regulate bullets... You do know many gun enthusiast in America make their own bullets. I use to reload, not very difficult. I'm not against most regulations as I know they are useless. Only answer is the complete abolition of guns and bullets and not gonna happen in America.
Guns are a huge part of our culture that transcends both political parties, races, economic status, and other subgroups in this country.
